Razor Tracking vs. Motive: One Screen for Your Mixed Fleet
Motive is a capable, widely used platform, with many of its customers running trucking and transportation fleets. But if you manage a mixed-fleet, you know it doesn't run like a trucking fleet. A farm, co-op, or construction company might run combines that log engine hours instead of miles, excavators parked on remote job sites, and fuel stored in bulk tanks as well as truck tanks.
That's the kind of fleet Razor Tracking was built for. Our platform pulls every truck, tractor, trailer, excavator, and fuel tank into one live dashboard so you can see where everything is, how it's being used, and when it needs service. Plus, it connects to the equipment brands and software you already rely on. If you run a mixed-fleet, here's why Razor Tracking is the stronger fit.
Razor Tracking vs. Motive at a Glance
For mixed-fleets, the key differences come down to:
Whether each platform connects to your equipment and software
How it handles fuel management
How it tracks equipment and assets on remote sites and after hours
Whether you're tied to a long-term contract

Why Razor Tracking Is the Stronger Fit for Mixed-Fleets
Connected to Equipment & Solutions You Already Use
Razor Tracking has one of the fleet management industry’s strongest partnership and integration networks, connecting with many of the software systems your fleet already uses. It connects with CNH FieldOps, CLAAS, Komatsu, and more, plus the AEMP 2.0 standard for heavy equipment. John Deere even named Razor Tracking its preferred Operations Center connection for support vehicles and equipment.
For you, that means fewer logins, less repetitive data entry, and no more endless shuffling between software solutions.
See Every Vehicle & Asset On One Screen
Razor Tracking puts everything from trucks, tractors, and combines to trailers and pickups on one unified dashboard. The platform tracks your full fleet using any combination of our trackers, manufacturer integrations, and Embedded Vehicle Data, which reads factory-installed telematics from brands like Ford Pro, GM, Toyota, and Hino.
Razor Tracking records location, engine hours, route history, and geofence entries and exits for every vehicle and machine. This gives you the data you need to answer the questions that matter most to your operation, like how long trucks spend in a field during harvest or a dump truck’s round-trip time from the quarry.
Protect Your Equipment
As a construction or agriculture fleet manager, you know machines left on job sites and in fields overnight are easy targets for theft. Razor Tracking's geofence and after-hours alerts tell you right away if a machine moves when it shouldn't. In cellular dead zones, Razor Tracking hardware keeps recording and uploads once it reconnects, so even remote sites don't become blind spots.
Optimize Fuel Management & Budget
Fuel is a major cost for any mixed-fleet, and Razor Tracking helps you minimize waste and maximize budget across your entire operation. In fact, fleets that use Razor Tracking typically report saving 10% to 25% on fuel. Real-time engine data shows tank levels and fuel use for each vehicle, and our idle reports compare run time against productive work so you can coach operators to shut down engines. Additionally, you can optimize routes using traffic data and route history to cut unnecessary miles.
Razor Tracking also brings bulk tank levels, WEX fuel card purchases, and manually logged fill-ups with receipts into a single dashboard, then automates compliance and fuel tax reports to streamline the administrative side of fuel management.
Have Room to Change With the Seasons
Mixed-fleets grow, shrink, and shift, especially in seasonal work like farming and construction. Razor Tracking doesn't require a long-term contract, and training is free. By comparison, Motive's terms of service set contract length in each order form and automatically renew subscriptions for 12 months at a time.

Which One Is Right for My Fleet?
Motive is a solid choice for trucking and logistics fleets that want robust ELD and IFTA reporting, workforce management tools, and a native fleet fuel card. Many of its current customers run exactly that kind of fleet.
But if you run a mixed fleet, Razor Tracking is built for you. It's the better fit if:
Your fleet mixes vehicles like pickups and semis with tractors, combines, heavy equipment, or trailers.
You run equipment from several manufacturers (or use agriculture software like Agvance) and want all of your data in one place.
Equipment sits in fields or on job sites where theft is a concern.
Your needs change by season, and you'd rather not sign a long-term contract.
Razor Tracking's team works with mixed fleets every day, assisting farms, contractors, school districts, municipalities, and more. Whatever your fleet looks like, you’ll be working with a team that already understands how operations like yours run.
Razor Tracking vs. Motive FAQ
What’s the main difference between Razor Tracking and Motive?
Motive is a broad platform used across many industries, particularly trucking and logistics. Razor Tracking is built for mixed fleets, with deep experience in agriculture and construction. The platform integrates with leading equipment manufacturers' platforms and business software, so every vehicle and machine will show up in the Razor Tracking dashboard.
Does Razor Tracking work with my equipment manufacturer’s platform?
Most likely. Razor Tracking connects with John Deere, CNH, CLAAS, Raven, Case IH, New Holland, Kubota, and Trackunit, and supports the AEMP 2.0 standard for heavy equipment.
Can Razor Tracking track unpowered assets, such as trailers?
Yes. We offer trackers (the AT230 Asset Tracker and Solar Hybrid tracker) specifically designed for assets like trailers, generators, containers, and fuel tanks. The AT230 tracker is low-cost, compact, and sends alerts when it leaves preset geofenced areas. Our Solar Hybrid tracker offers both real-time and daily asset tracking and features a rechargeable battery.
Does Razor Tracking require a contract?
No, Razor Tracking does not require you to sign any long-term contracts, giving seasonal operations much-needed flexibility. On the other hand, Motive's terms of service state that contract length is set in each customer's order form and subscriptions automatically renew for 12 months at a time unless canceled at least 30 days before the term ends. Customers who end early must pay the balance for the rest of the term.
Does Razor Tracking support ELD compliance?
Yes. Our Premier Tracker has built-in electronic logging, so drivers can record hours of service and keep e-logs that help you meet FMCSA rules on the same platform you use for the rest of your fleet. Additionally, the Elite Dash Camera is ELD capable, meaning it can also serve as your electronic logging device, so drivers don’t need a separate ELD unit in the cab.
